What it does
This skill gives an AI agent detailed guidance for writing machine learning and AI research papers aimed at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, AAAI and COLM. Once installed, the agent starts from a research code repository, reads the results and existing citations, proposes a paper structure, and produces a first draft to refine with the researcher. It also includes LaTeX template notes, conference checklists, and a workflow for finding and verifying references through paper-search APIs rather than writing bibliography entries from memory.
Great for
- ML researchers preparing a conference submission from an existing codebase
- Graduate students who need help structuring a paper and checking its references
- Teams preparing camera-ready versions against venue formatting rules
Skip it if
- Systems venues such as OSDI, NSDI, ASPLOS or SOSP; the skill itself points to a separate systems-paper-writing skill for those.
- Submitting AI-written text without author review; the skill's own guidance requires human verification of claims and citations, and conference policies on AI-generated content vary.
- Fully automated citation accuracy; the skill notes that unverifiable references must be left as placeholders, so the user still has to check them.
Try asking
- “Draft a NeurIPS paper introduction and related work from my training repo and results folder.”
- “Verify these 20 citations and fetch BibTeX for the ones that exist; mark the rest as placeholders.”
- “Check my draft against the ICML camera-ready checklist and list what is missing.”
- “Outline an ACL submission structure based on the experiments in this repository.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give the agent a clear summary of your main contribution before it drafts, since the skill asks it to confirm framing rather than assume it.
- Always check every citation and BibTeX entry yourself before submission, even when the agent says it fetched them programmatically.
- Review the venue-specific checklist and anonymity and AI-use policies for your target conference before submitting.
