What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to take an existing patent draft (claims, specification sections, abstract) and rearrange it into the section order, numbering, and wording conventions required by the Chinese (CNIPA), US (USPTO), or European (EPO) patent offices. It produces separate files for each office, such as a Chinese claims document, a US specification with a draft Application Data Sheet, and an EP description, plus a summary and a consistency checklist. It is stated not to change claim content, only the format around it.

Great for

  • Inventors or patent agents who already have a drafted application and need it laid out for a specific office
  • Teams preparing the same invention for filing in more than one jurisdiction

Skip it if

  • Drafting a patent from scratch: the skill assumes the input files already exist, and it does not check legal sufficiency or novelty (a patent professional must review the output before filing)
  • Filing decisions that carry legal consequences: formatting errors or missed requirements can affect a filing, so the output should be verified by a qualified patent attorney

Try asking

  • “Format my patent claims and specification for CN filing”
  • “Convert the patent in patent/ into USPTO format with an ADS template”
  • “Generate EP two-part claims and a description from my drafts”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Jurisdiction Patent FormatterInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    jurisdiction-format.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip jurisdiction-format.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip jurisdiction-format.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the skill with a single jurisdiction argument (CN, US, or EP) first to check output before generating ALL.
  • Choose markdown output for review; use docx only once the content has been checked, and confirm python-docx is installed.
  • Have a patent professional verify the claims, abstract word counts, and EP 'characterised in that' wording before any filing.
