What it does
Herdr is a terminal app that lets coding agents run side by side in panes, tabs and workspaces. With this skill installed, the agent knows how to start an agent in another pane, prompt it, read its output, and check what other agents are doing, while reading the live herdr binary for exact command syntax instead of guessing. It also explains and edits the local herdr configuration (keybindings, sidebar, integrations) and checks the install against upstream for version and config drift.
Great for
- Developers who already run herdr and want an agent to manage panes or other agents for them
- Users troubleshooting a herdr keybinding, sidebar or config setting
- Maintainers who want to check whether their herdr install and config are current
Skip it if
- Users who do not use herdr: the skill is specific to that tool and its CLI (Hermes, Helm and in-harness subagents are explicitly out of scope)
- Running control commands outside a herdr pane or without an explicit target: this can act on whichever pane the user has focused, and stopping the server or updating herdr closes all panes
Try asking
- “Start a second Claude agent in a new herdr pane and ask it to review my current branch”
- “What are my other agents doing right now?”
- “Why does this key do that in herdr? Check my config.toml”
- “Is herdr up to date, and is my config still valid for the installed version?”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run Tools/Freshness.ts with --offline first to see local drift without network calls
- Ask for explicit confirmation before any update, server stop or pane close; the skill is written to wait for a yes
- Set up the baseline files with Setup.md before relying on the skill_hash check, since without them it reports stale
