What it does
When installed, this skill tells an AI agent to handle version control the way experienced engineers do: save work in small commits as it goes, keep each commit focused on one change, write messages that explain why a change was made, and keep branches short-lived. It also covers splitting a messy set of uncommitted edits into clean commits, using git worktrees so several agents can work on different branches at once, choosing semantic version numbers, and writing changelogs. It is guidance only; it does not itself run git commands or contain scripts.
Great for
- Developers who use an AI agent to write a lot of code and want a clean, reviewable git history
- Teams that want consistent commit message format and small pull requests
- People running several agents in parallel who need isolated branches via worktrees
Skip it if
- Teams with a strict gitflow or long-lived branch model, since the skill recommends trunk-based development and only partly adapts to other models
- Non-developers with no git repository, where the guidance will have little use
Try asking
- “Split these uncommitted changes into atomic commits with clear messages”
- “Create a feature branch and worktree so two agents can work in parallel”
- “Write a commit message explaining why we added email validation”
- “Pick the right semantic version bump for these changes and draft a changelog entry”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review the commands the agent proposes before it runs destructive ones such as git reset --hard or worktree removal, since the skill recommends them for recovery
- Ask the agent to follow your team's existing branch and commit conventions if they differ from trunk-based development and the feat/fix format
- Keep requests scoped to one change so the agent can apply the atomic-commit and size guidance effectively
