What it does
This skill gives an AI agent a step-by-step playbook for buying electronic components. Once installed, the agent knows which parts-mcp search tool to use, follows a search, price, availability, alternative sequence, processes bill-of-materials (BOM) spreadsheets, reads component datasheets in targeted chunks, and requests PCB fabrication and assembly quotes. It does not contain parts data itself; it depends on the parts-mcp server to supply it.
Great for
- Hardware engineers and hobbyists building a PCB who need costs and stock for a parts list
- Product teams estimating per-unit manufacturing cost from a KiCad project or BOM file
- Anyone who wants an agent to look up component datasheets without reading hundreds of pages
Skip it if
- Users without access to a parts-mcp server: the tools named in the skill will not exist and the instructions cannot be followed
- Safety-critical or regulated designs where pricing or datasheet summaries from an agent should not replace engineer verification (the skill does not describe verification of datasheet claims)
Try asking
- “Find a 100nF X7R 0402 capacitor rated at 50V and show me prices and stock”
- “Process my BOM file, tell me which lines did not match, and calculate the total cost”
- “Pull the maximum input voltage ratings from the STM32F411 datasheet”
- “Get a DFM check and an assembly quote for my KiCad project”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip electronics-sourcing.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip electronics-sourcing.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give specific parameters (value, voltage, dielectric, package) so the agent uses search_by_parameters rather than a vague keyword search
- Ask for quantity breaks at 1, 10, 100 and 1000 to see how unit price changes with volume
- Name your preferred suppliers up front so cost calculations favour them
