What it does

When an AI assistant is about to build something (like a slide deck, poster or landing page) and a key detail is missing, this skill tells it to pause and show a small inline form with only the questions that matter, such as audience, format or language, with sensible pre-filled answers. The form is plain text the host app parses, and your replies come back as the next message. It also tells the agent not to ask when enough information is already available.

Great for

  • Designers who want the assistant to confirm format and audience before generating a deliverable
  • Teams using the open-design plugin system who want consistent clarification steps
  • Builders of other skills who want a reusable pattern for structured questions

Skip it if

  • Quick requests where you want the agent to just start without questions, since the skill is designed to skip forms when information is sufficient
  • Environments that do not support the open-design host's question-form parsing, because the form will appear as ordinary text with no interactive controls

Try asking

  • “Make a poster for our product launch and check the format and audience first”
  • “Create a pitch deck; ask me only what you really need before building it”
  • “Design a promo in another language, confirming the language and reference file first”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Discovery Question FormInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    discovery-question-form.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip discovery-question-form.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip discovery-question-form.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give a detailed first brief so the agent has fewer material gaps to ask about
  • Answer only the required questions; defaults fill in the rest
  • Upload a reference file if you have one, since the agent will wait for it when marked needed
