What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to walk you through replacing a traditional VPN with Cloudflare's zero trust service. The agent provides steps to expose internal web, SSH and RDP apps through a Cloudflare Tunnel without opening inbound ports, connect your identity provider such as Okta or Microsoft Entra ID, and write access policies that can also require device checks. It also includes Python scripts that can query your Cloudflare account to audit existing Access apps, policies and identity providers.

Great for

  • IT or platform engineers moving a team off a VPN to Cloudflare One
  • Administrators who need to give contractors access to only specific internal apps
  • Teams auditing an existing Cloudflare Access setup for missing session timeouts or weak policies

Skip it if

  • Environments that must stay fully on-premises or air-gapped, because the skill routes traffic through Cloudflare's cloud
  • Applications that need persistent UDP connections, which the skill itself says Cloudflare Tunnel does not support
  • Non-technical users without a Cloudflare account, server access or an identity provider, since the setup needs all three

Try asking

  • “Help me replace our VPN with Cloudflare Access for our internal wiki and Grafana dashboards.”
  • “Walk me through creating a Cloudflare Tunnel that exposes an internal Git server without opening firewall ports.”
  • “Write an Access policy that only lets the Engineering group in when the device passes a posture check.”
  • “Audit my Cloudflare Access apps for sessions with no timeout set.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Cloudflare Access Zero Trust DeploymentInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 7 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    deploying-cloudflare-access-for-zero-trust.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip deploying-cloudflare-access-for-zero-trust.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip deploying-cloudflare-access-for-zero-trust.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use a narrowly scoped Cloudflare API token and review each curl command before running it, since the steps create live access policies and identity providers.
  • Keep client secrets and API tokens in environment variables or a secrets manager rather than pasting them into chat or config files.
  • Test each application with a non-admin account and confirm session timeouts and device posture rules behave as intended before rolling out company-wide.
