What it does

This skill lets an AI agent keep data-driven public websites current. It reads a private registry of your sites, reports which ones have out-of-date data compared with their update schedule, re-downloads the source datasets, rebuilds the site, and reports the result. Publishing to production only happens when you explicitly ask for it, and the agent then checks the live site to confirm the new figures appear.

Great for

  • Teams that maintain several data-backed public sites fed by government or public datasets
  • Owners who want a quick daily or weekly answer to 'which of our sites are stale?'
  • Developers who already have their own fetch, build and deploy commands and want an agent to run them in order

Skip it if

  • Anyone without a registry of their own sites: the tool exits with an error and points to Setup.md, so it does nothing useful out of the box
  • Automatic publishing of unreviewed data to live sites, since the skill can deploy to production when asked and its verification only checks a few values
  • Routine system upgrades, uptime or security monitoring, or non-data deploys, which the skill itself says belong to other tools

Try asking

  • “Are our data sites stale?”
  • “Refresh example-site and show me what changed before deploying anything”
  • “Update the data sites and deploy them, then confirm the live pages show the new dates”
  • “Which sites need updating this week?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Data Site RefresherInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 5 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    DataRefresh.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip DataRefresh.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip DataRefresh.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the status check first to see what is stale before asking for a refresh or deploy.
  • Only ask for deployment when you actually want production changes, and review the before and after record dates in the report.
  • Keep the registry outside any shared repository, since it holds your private paths and targets.
