What it does

This skill gives an AI agent the official visual and writing rules for the AI Engineering from Scratch course pages and figures. Once installed, the agent uses the exact colour tokens for light and dark mode, the required font stacks, the FIG_ label format, card and figure layout, and the plain technical English rules. It can also check written text against those rules and apply accessibility and reduced motion defaults. It does not draw figures itself; it points to other skills for that.

Great for

  • Contributors writing or reviewing pages, cards or figures for the AI Engineering from Scratch course
  • Front-end developers who need the exact tokens and font links used by that course
  • Authors who want a plain-English check against a fixed banned-word list

Skip it if

  • Projects with their own brand, because the skill hard-codes the course palette and fonts
  • Static SVG drawing or animated figures on their own; the skill says to use blueprint-figure or motion-figure for those
  • Anyone expecting it to run checks automatically; the checker is a reference the agent applies, and the source audit script lives in the wider repo, not in this folder

Try asking

  • “Check my prose against the course plain technical English rules”
  • “Give me the light and dark colour tokens for a course page”
  • “Label this figure using the FIG_ format for figure 5 with sub-figure A”
  • “Add a reduced motion block and focus outlines to this card component”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Course Style ReferenceInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 6 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    course-style.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip course-style.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip course-style.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the page or figure type you are working on so the agent loads the right reference file, such as tokens or labels.
  • Ask for a dark mode check, since the skill requires reading each page in both themes before finishing.
  • Paste your draft text when asking for a plain-English check to get line-by-line hits.
