What it does

Once installed, the agent can search a typed personal Knowledge Archive (people, companies, ideas, research, books, blogs), recall what was decided in earlier LifeOS sessions and conversations, and capture or digest problem-solving learnings into dated notes. It follows a routing table and loads its instructions through a loader script before acting, and it is designed to report when a search found nothing or a verification was unavailable.

Great for

  • Users running the LifeOS personal memory system who want the agent to remember prior work
  • Developers who want a reference example of a typed, routed memory skill with a loader and search tool
  • Anyone who wants to resume past sessions or capture lessons learned in a structured way

Skip it if

  • People without the LifeOS directory structure (~/.claude/LIFEOS), since most commands depend on those local paths and tools
  • Searching published online content, which the skill explicitly excludes; it works only on the local archive
  • Shared or team environments where session transcripts or personal notes should not be read by an agent, because it scans local conversation history

Try asking

  • “What did we do with the authentication refactor last week?”
  • “Capture this learning: the build failed because of a stale lockfile”
  • “Search knowledge for notes about pricing strategy”
  • “Run a knowledge status check and show contradictions across my notes”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Cortex Knowledge ArchiveInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 6 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    Cortex.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip Cortex.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip Cortex.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Review the loader and ContextSearch.ts before running, since the skill executes scripts and reads local session transcripts
  • Use specific queries and date phrases so recall returns ranked, relevant sessions
  • Keep personal configuration outside the skill; the skill states it contains none
