What it does

When installed, the agent role-plays several thinking styles (such as a Strategist, Empiricist, Ethicist or Contrarian) to look at a difficult choice from different angles. It separates given facts, verified facts, assumptions and value judgments, then gives a conditional recommendation, open questions and a next step. The skill itself is a structured prompt; the viewpoints are generated by the same AI system, not independent experts, so the output is a decision aid rather than proof.

Great for

  • People weighing a hard personal or business decision who want the trade-offs laid out
  • Researchers planning a study who want competing priorities and evidence gaps surfaced
  • Anyone who wants a devil's advocate test of their preferred option

Skip it if

  • Medical, legal or financial decisions that need a qualified professional, since the simulated perspectives are not real experts and facts may be unverified
  • Situations needing verified scientific conclusions, because agreement among simulated viewpoints does not establish validity
  • Urgent decisions where a long deliberation adds delay without value

Try asking

  • “Convene a council to decide whether to launch our product in Europe this year or wait”
  • “Run a devil's advocate analysis on my plan to switch our database to a new vendor”
  • “Use a deep council to compare three research designs for our clinical pilot study”
  • “Give me a mind council on whether to accept a job offer that pays more but relocates my family”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Consciousness CouncilInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    consciousness-council.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip consciousness-council.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip consciousness-council.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Provide concrete constraints, deadlines and your objective so the evidence brief is grounded rather than assumed.
  • Ask the agent to verify consequential factual claims with real sources, since the skill itself has no research tools or connections.
  • Request a quick, standard or deep council depending on how much detail you need; more members is not more accuracy.
