What it does

Once installed, the agent follows a structured process for designing network microsegmentation: mapping which servers and containers actually talk to each other, labelling them by role and environment, drafting allow-list rules that deny everything else, testing those rules in a non-enforcing mode, and then enforcing them gradually. It can also run an audit script that flags overly open cloud firewall rules (such as AWS security groups open to 0.0.0.0/0) and a flow-analysis script that checks observed traffic against proposed policies. The guidance is aligned with NIST SP 800-207 zero trust principles.

Great for

  • Security or cloud engineers planning zero trust controls for a data center or cloud environment
  • Teams preparing PCI or healthcare segmentation scope who need a documented rollout plan
  • Security architects reviewing whether a planned segmentation design is sound

Skip it if

  • Individuals or small setups with no multi-server network: the workflow assumes enterprise tooling like NSX, Illumio or Calico and would add little value
  • Running the audit or flow scripts against production networks without authorization or a lab copy, since the skill itself says testing needs authorization and a test environment

Try asking

  • “Help me design a microsegmentation policy plan for our production database tier that only accepts traffic from the app tier.”
  • “Walk me through a phased rollout of Illumio policies, starting in visibility mode.”
  • “Analyze this CSV of network flows and tell me which communication paths should be blocked by default.”
  • “Review our AWS security groups for rules open to the whole internet.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Microsegmentation for Zero TrustInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 7 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    configuring-microsegmentation-for-zero-trust.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip configuring-microsegmentation-for-zero-trust.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip configuring-microsegmentation-for-zero-trust.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Start with the flow analysis or policy design steps on exported data before giving any script live cloud credentials.
  • Read scripts/agent.py before running it, since it calls AWS APIs with whatever credentials are configured and disables urllib3 SSL warnings.
  • Ask for policies to be drafted in monitor or test mode first and validated with application owners before enforcement.
