What it does

Cirq is Google's open-source Python library for designing quantum circuits, simulating them on a normal computer, and submitting them to quantum hardware. With this skill installed, the agent knows Cirq's conventions and can write working circuit code, parameter sweeps, noise models, and hardware-targeting scripts, and it points to reference guides for topics such as transformations and experiments. The skill itself is documentation and examples; the agent still runs the Python code on your machine when you ask it to.

Great for

  • Researchers or students learning quantum computing in Python who want help writing Cirq circuits
  • Developers building noise-aware or hardware-specific quantum circuits for Google, IonQ, AQT or Pasqal devices
  • People who want simulations of small circuits checked before any paid cloud run

Skip it if

  • IBM hardware work, which the skill itself says should use qiskit instead; using it here gives the wrong toolchain
  • Submitting paid or real jobs to quantum hardware without reviewing the code, because cloud runs use your credentials and may incur costs
  • Production physics simulations, where the skill recommends qutip instead

Try asking

  • “Write a Cirq circuit that prepares a Bell state and simulate 1000 shots”
  • “Create a parameterized circuit and sweep theta from 0 to 2π, plotting the histograms”
  • “Add depolarizing noise to my circuit and compare ideal and noisy results”
  • “Transpile this circuit to a hardware gateset for an IonQ target without submitting it”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Cirq Quantum CircuitsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 8 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    cirq.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip cirq.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip cirq.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run local simulations first and review any hardware script before the agent submits it
  • Keep all cirq-* packages on the same version, and use the separate Azure environment as the skill describes
  • Ask for a dry run or a printed circuit before any cloud execution, and keep credentials out of prompts
