What it does

When installed, the agent reviews a code change (a named diff, a pull request, or your current branch) the way a careful senior engineer would. It checks the change against its intended behavior and project standards, runs several specialised reviewer passes, and returns a report of real defects and improvements with a clear verdict and any coverage limits. It only edits your code when you explicitly ask it to apply the findings locally; by default it just reports.

Great for

  • Developers who want a second, structured review before merging or shipping a change
  • Teams using PR-based workflows who want consistent review receipts
  • Solo developers reviewing their own branch before pushing

Skip it if

  • Reviewing feedback someone already left on a PR (the skill points to a separate ce-resolve-pr-feedback skill for that)
  • Unattended runs where you have not reviewed what cross-model review sends off the machine, since code may be sent to an external peer model when configured
  • Non-code documents or very large diffs where a single review may miss issues

Try asking

  • “Review the current branch for bugs and regressions before I open a PR”
  • “Review PR https://github.com/org/repo/pull/123 and focus on test coverage”
  • “Review my staged diff and apply the findings locally”
  • “Run a review in agent mode and give me a structured result for my shipping workflow”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Code Review AssistantInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 13 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    ce-code-review.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip ce-code-review.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip ce-code-review.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the diff or PR explicitly to avoid reviewing the wrong branch
  • Check .compound-engineering/config.yaml and cross_model_review_mode before running, so you know whether code may leave your machine
  • Use apply:local only when you want edits made; otherwise review the report and apply fixes yourself
