What it does

When you type /caveman-help or ask for caveman help, the agent displays a short reference card listing the caveman modes (terse, grammar-stripped, and classical Chinese styles), the related caveman skills for commits, code review and file compression, and how to switch or set the default mode. It is a one-shot display: according to its instructions it does not change the current mode, write files or save anything.

Great for

  • People who installed the caveman skill set and forgot the commands
  • Anyone trying to learn which caveman mode or sub-skill to use
  • Users who want to check how to set a default mode for Claude Code

Skip it if

  • Users looking for a general coding or writing skill; this only explains the caveman family and does not do the work itself
  • Anyone expecting the card to show live status: the skill points to /caveman status for that, and status is only truly tracked in some hosts (Claude Code and the standalone OpenCode plugin)

Try asking

  • “/caveman-help”
  • “caveman help”
  • “Show me the caveman commands and modes”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Caveman Help CardInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    caveman-help.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip caveman-help.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip caveman-help.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use /caveman-help first if you are unsure which caveman skill fits your task.
  • To make caveman start on demand rather than automatically, the card describes setting defaultMode to manual, which is configured separately in the caveman setup.
  • The skill itself is text only; the config and environment variables it describes are set outside this skill.
