What it does

Once installed, the agent checks a web article, document, or pasted text for bias in three layers: the data and study methods, the conflicts of interest of the organization behind the source, and distortions added by the journalism. It tries to fetch the primary study the input cites, then separates what the data actually supports from what was editorialized, so the original claim can be restated more accurately. A reference catalog of bias types is included to name each problem precisely.

Great for

  • Readers who want to know whether a news story's statistics or headline hold up against the underlying study
  • Students or analysts reviewing a report, survey, or vendor study before relying on it
  • Anyone asking who funded a study or whether a source has a stake in the conclusion

Skip it if

  • Judging an author's personality or psychology, which the skill explicitly excludes
  • Broad literature reviews or research synthesis, which belong to a separate Research skill
  • Entity due diligence on companies or people; the skill excludes this and its findings should not replace legal or financial vetting

Try asking

  • “bias check https://news.example.com/some-article-citing-a-vendor-survey”
  • “bias check this abstract: [paste study abstract]”
  • “bias check ~/Downloads/some-report.pdf”
  • “who funded this study and is the headline supported by the data?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use BiasCheckInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    BiasCheck.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip BiasCheck.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip BiasCheck.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the full URL or file path so the agent can reach the primary study rather than only the headline
  • Paste the full abstract or methods section when the source is not accessible, and expect a note if methodology cannot be assessed
  • Treat the output as a structured critique to verify yourself; check the cited primary source before acting on conclusions
