What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to review a web page or project for large animated GIFs that hurt load speed and scrolling. It asks the agent to confirm the real bottleneck with tools like DevTools, Lighthouse, or field data before suggesting changes. When a GIF is a real problem, the agent recommends converting it to MP4 or WebM and embedding it with a video tag using autoplay, loop, muted, and playsinline.
Great for
- Front-end developers auditing page performance
- Designers or site owners whose pages feel slow because of heavy animated images
- Teams reviewing a site against a performance checklist
Skip it if
- Projects with no animated GIFs, where the skill has nothing to check
- Sites that need GIFs for compatibility with email clients or platforms that do not support video, since switching formats can break them
- Cases where the slowdown has a different cause; the skill is narrow and the agent should verify the bottleneck first
Try asking
- “Audit my landing page for large animated GIFs that slow it down”
- “Should I replace these hero GIFs with MP4 video? Check the performance impact first”
- “Review my site's assets and explain which GIFs are costing the most load time”
- “Show me how to convert a GIF to WebM and embed it with a video tag”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Ask the agent to measure first, for example with a Lighthouse run or DevTools network panel, so recommendations rest on evidence rather than guesses
- Provide the project folder or page URL so the agent can find the exact GIF files and where they are used
- Check the referenced rule page for framework-specific code examples before applying changes
