What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to review behavioral reports from malware sandboxes (Cuckoo Sandbox or AnyRun) and look for signs that a suspicious program is trying to detect the analysis environment and hide its real behavior. It checks for timing tricks, virtual machine artifacts such as VMware or VirtualBox registry keys and process names, user-activity checks like mouse or keyboard polling, and long sleeps meant to outwait the sandbox. The agent then maps findings to MITRE ATT&CK sub-techniques and produces a JSON report with a sophistication score for a human analyst to review.

Great for

  • Malware analysts reviewing sandbox reports where a sample showed little or no activity
  • Security teams writing detections for anti-analysis behavior
  • Students learning how sandbox evasion appears in API call traces

Skip it if

  • Live incident response on production machines, since this works on exported report files and does not inspect systems directly
  • Final verdicts on whether a file is malicious: the output flags indicators for deeper manual review, and the lists of API names and artifacts are heuristic and can produce false positives on legitimate software

Try asking

  • “Review this Cuckoo JSON report and tell me which sandbox evasion techniques the sample uses, with MITRE mappings”
  • “Check this AnyRun export for VM artifact queries and sleep inflation”
  • “Score the evasion sophistication of this sample based on its API call sequence”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Malware Sandbox Evasion AnalyzerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    analyzing-malware-sandbox-evasion-techniques.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip analyzing-malware-sandbox-evasion-techniques.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip analyzing-malware-sandbox-evasion-techniques.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Provide exported JSON reports rather than raw malware samples; the script parses reports and does not need the binary
  • Run the bundled script in an isolated environment, since it executes local Python on files you supply, and review the parser's full source first because the excerpt provided was truncated
  • Treat the score as a triage aid and confirm key findings manually before drawing conclusions
