What it does

This skill gives an AI agent a reference for talking to the agentmemory memory server directly over its HTTP REST interface on localhost port 3111. Once installed, the agent knows the endpoints for saving a memory and searching past memories, how to authenticate with a local secret, and the expected response codes. It is a fallback or integration path for when the MCP tools are unavailable or the host app does not support MCP.

Great for

  • Developers integrating agentmemory into a tool or app that calls HTTP rather than MCP
  • Users whose agent cannot reach agentmemory through MCP and needs a direct fallback
  • Anyone debugging agentmemory calls with curl

Skip it if

  • Non-technical users who just want memory in Claude; the MCP tools or the main agentmemory setup are simpler (this skill is not user-invocable and assumes a running server)
  • Remote or shared servers without a careful credential plan, because the skill warns that secrets must not be forwarded to other hosts and HTTPS is required for remote daemons

Try asking

  • “Save a decision to agentmemory over REST so it can be recalled in a later session”
  • “Search stored memories for a query like 'auth token strategy' using the smart-search endpoint”
  • “Check whether the local agentmemory server is alive before making other calls”
  • “Work out which HTTP endpoint and fields to use when MCP is not available”
Step-by-step guide: how to use agentmemory REST APIInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    agentmemory-rest-api.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip agentmemory-rest-api.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip agentmemory-rest-api.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the liveness check first; if it fails, start the agentmemory server before calling other endpoints
  • Only use documented fields in requests, since a successful response does not confirm an unsupported field was applied
  • Keep the secret out of logs and shell tracing, and do not point the calls at remote hosts without HTTPS and an explicit credential
