What it does
When installed, the agent knows how to build a single procedural wood material for 3D scenes made with Three.js, a web graphics library. Instead of pasting a wood photo onto a surface, the material generates growth rings, pores, rays, checks and tool marks from one noise field, so the grain follows the shape of the object and still looks right in close-up. It also covers oil, wax and lacquer finishes and rounded board edges.
Great for
- Web developers building 3D furniture, product or architectural scenes who want believable timber
- Designers prototyping wooden objects in the browser who need detail beyond a tiled photo look
- Developers who want to study or adapt a shader-based wood technique
Skip it if
- Projects that need photographed or scanned wood maps, since this skill generates wood procedurally and points to a different skill for image-based textures
- Non-3D work such as printed wood images or 2D graphics, where this material has no use
- Anyone expecting a plug-and-play library: the skill guides code the agent writes, and results depend on the scene and tuning
Try asking
- “Make the bench top in my Three.js scene look like real oak with visible growth rings and pores”
- “Add a matte oil finish to these carved wooden panels in the browser scene”
- “Create a charred siding material for my cabin model that looks weathered and rough”
- “Give each wooden board in this shelf unit its own grain so they don't look identical”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run demo.html first to see the species, finishes and macro views before asking for changes
- Set ringFreq from real ring spacing for your scene scale rather than copying values between projects
- Ask for a specific species from the workshop table (keyaki, sugi, hinoki, kuri, charred siding) to start from tested settings
