What it is
OpenClash is a web-interface add-on for OpenWrt, a Linux-based router firmware. It manages the Mihomo (Clash Meta) proxy core so that traffic from devices on your home network can be routed through proxy servers based on rules you configure. The README says it supports protocols including Shadowsocks, VMess, VLESS, Trojan, Snell, TUIC and Hysteria, and offers transparent proxying and subscription management.
- Route selected websites or apps through a proxy while other traffic goes direct, using rule configuration
- Import a proxy subscription and switch between multiple configuration files from the LuCI web page
- Use the built-in dashboards to monitor the Mihomo core
- Back up and restore configuration files, or edit them online
Great for
- People who already run OpenWrt on a router and want rule-based proxy routing for the whole network
- Users who manage several proxy subscriptions and config files from one place
- Households wanting per-device or per-site traffic split without installing software on each device
- Users comfortable reading router network settings and firewall options
Not ideal for
- People without OpenWrt: the plugin is installed into OpenWrt's LuCI interface and will not run on ordinary PCs or phones
- Beginners who have never configured a router, since setup involves dependencies, firewall modes and proxy configuration
- Users who want a simple one-click proxy app on a desktop, because the project is aimed at router deployments
How to get it
- 1
Install with a package manager
You'll need: OpenWrt with LuCI (README lists Luci 19.07 or newer for luci-compat) · opkg (ipk) or apk package manager on the router · Dependencies listed in README such as bash, curl, ruby, ruby-yaml, dnsmasq-full, kmod-tun (optional)
Update package lists (opkg)
opkg updateInstall OpenClash ipk from the release (opkg)
opkg install /tmp/openclash.ipkUpdate package lists (apk)
apk updateInstall OpenClash apk from the release (apk)
apk add -q --force-overwrite --clean-protected --allow-untrusted /tmp/openclash.apk - 2
Run it
- Download the .ipk or .apk package for your architecture from the Releases page
- Upload and install it under System, then Software in the LuCI web interface
- Refresh the page and open Services, then OpenClash
- Import a subscription or upload a configuration file, then start the service

Get the most out of it
- Use the subscription management feature to keep several providers in one place
- Choose between redir-host, fake-ip or mixed modes and TUN mode according to your needs, as described in the README feature table
- Use the custom firewall rules and black/white lists for access control
- Use the modular override YAML feature to customise configuration files without editing them directly
Downloads
Strengths
- Built on the Mihomo core and supports a wide range of proxy protocols listed in the README
- Provides a web interface inside OpenWrt's LuCI panel rather than requiring command-line control for daily use
- Large, actively maintained project with MIT license and a sizable user base (27,982 stars)
Trade-offs
- Requires OpenWrt and some networking knowledge; the README lists many dependencies that must match your firewall choice (iptables or nftables)
- The first run downloads the core, so the README advises checking your network environment beforehand
- README is largely in Chinese; the main user guide is an external Wiki link, so non-Chinese readers may find documentation harder to follow
