What it is
UI Bootstrap is a set of AngularJS directives that give you Bootstrap-style UI pieces such as accordions, carousels, datepickers, modals and tooltips, written in AngularJS itself. It needs only AngularJS and Bootstrap's CSS, not jQuery or Bootstrap's JavaScript. The project is archived: its maintainers have declared it feature-complete and no longer maintained, and they point to the Angular version, ng-bootstrap, instead.
- Add a Bootstrap-styled accordion, carousel or modal to an AngularJS 1.4+ app
- Load only the accordion or datepicker module via webpack imports to keep the bundle small
- Build a custom subset of components using the Custom build button on the project's demo site
Great for
- Teams with an existing AngularJS 1.x app that want Bootstrap components without adding jQuery
- Developers maintaining a legacy AngularJS codebase who need a stable, already-built component set
- Projects that want to import only the individual modules they need via webpack
Not ideal for
- New projects: the maintainers say the library is no longer maintained, and they direct users to ng-bootstrap for newer Angular work
- Anyone on Angular 2 or later: the README says this is for AngularJS (1.x) and that the Angular 2 version is a separate project
- Teams that need security fixes or bug fixes for new browsers, since the project is archived
How to get it
- 1
Install with a package manager
You'll need: AngularJS 1.4.x or higher · Bootstrap CSS 3.x or higher
Install with npm
npm install angular-ui-bootstrap - 2
Run it
- Install the package with npm, which also installs AngularJS and Bootstrap packages
- Add 'ui.bootstrap' as a dependency of your AngularJS module: angular.module('myModule', ['ui.bootstrap']);
- Include ngAnimate or ngTouch in your module dependencies if you want animations or swipe actions
- 3
Get the most out of it
- Use the webpack import method (for example, import accordion from 'angular-ui-bootstrap/src/accordion') to include only the modules you use
- Use the index-nocss.js files if you load your CSS separately from your JavaScript bundle
- Include ngAnimate to enable transitions for components such as the accordion and carousel
- Check the project's demo site and its Custom build tool to choose a smaller build
Downloads
Strengths
- Does not require jQuery or Bootstrap's JavaScript, per the project description
- Installable through npm, Bower or NuGet, and usable via a manual download or CDN
- Each module can be imported on its own when using webpack
Trade-offs
- Archived with the last push in February 2019; no further maintenance is planned
- Depends on AngularJS 1.x, and the README lists version-specific requirements for both Angular and Bootstrap CSS
