How to use the Paper to Chinese Patent Drafter agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

This guide explains the nature-paper-to-patent agent skill, which helps an AI agent turn a research paper or inventor materials into a Chinese invention patent draft or technical disclosure (技术交底书). It is written for readers who have not used agent skills before. By the end you will know what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for the right task, and what to check before relying on the output.

Paper to Chinese Patent DrafterYuan1z0825/nature-skills · Apache-2.0

Quick start

  1. 1Install the skill. Unzip the downloaded ZIP into ~/.claude/skills/ or a project's .claude/skills/, or upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps.
  2. 2Install Python and rendering tools. Make sure Python and the Mermaid rendering and Word/DOCX support used by scripts/disclosure/ are available.
  3. 3Gather source files. Collect the paper PDF, pasted text, or inventor materials, and note what you want protected.
  4. 4Make a natural request. Ask in plain language, for example for a technical disclosure or a claim draft from a specific paper.
  5. 5Answer the TO CONFIRM questions. Review the open questions the agent raises about missing facts and supply the answers.
  6. 6Validate and review. Run the validation and build scripts for formal packages, then check every warning against the source.

What the skill makes the agent do

The skill is a workflow for patent drafting. It does not ask the agent to write a patent straight from a paper's abstract or contribution list. Instead, the agent loads the workflow, detects the source format and task type, assigns stable source IDs to paper text, equations, figures and code, and drafts through stage gates.

Every material feature in a formal claim must map to a source ID. Each feature is labelled as explicit, inherent, needs-confirmation or unsupported, and unsupported features are kept out of formal claims. Missing facts are marked as [TO CONFIRM] questions for a human to answer.

  • Formal outputs include claims, specification, abstract and figure descriptions, written in Chinese.
  • Technical disclosures are delivered as timestamped Markdown plus matching DOCX, with Mermaid system or process diagrams rendered through scripts/disclosure/.
  • Algorithm inventions keep source-supported core formulas, defined symbols, and native editable Office Math in the DOCX.

Install the skill from the ZIP

Download the ZIP of the skill from this page and unzip it. You can install it in one of two places, depending on how you use your agent.

For a personal setup, unzip the folder into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into the project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload the skill under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

  • Personal: ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project only: .claude/skills/ inside your project folder
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload

Check the skill's files after installing

The skill folder contains SKILL.md, which is the entry point the agent reads first. It also includes manifest.yaml, a references/ folder with drafting guides and disclosure templates, and scripts/ for validation and building. Readme files in English and Chinese are included for reference.

If you are unsure the skill loaded, start a session and ask the agent what skills it can use. Then make a request in the next section.

Trigger the skill with a natural request

You do not need a special command. The skill is described for requests about 技术交底书, 专利撰写, 现有技术对比 and Chinese DOCX patent packages. Say what you have and what you want back, in plain language.

The skill is not for general manuscript writing. A request to polish a journal submission will not match it.

Prepare the source material

Provide the paper as a PDF, pasted text, or inventor materials such as notes, figures, experiment records and code. The skill can work from selectable PDFs, scanned PDFs, pasted text, or a mixed project.

Tell the agent what you want protected (a method, system, apparatus, material, process or software flow), any known prior art, information that must not be made public, and terms that must stay fixed.

  • Paper PDF, technical report, code, figures, or experiment notes
  • The subject you want protected
  • Known prior art and anything confidential
  • Terminology that must be kept consistent

Run it and check the output

For a full application package, the agent builds a structured draft and runs the validation and build scripts. Validation errors must be resolved, and warnings should be reviewed against the source. If a quality threshold is not met, the result is labelled incomplete draft.

Technical disclosures run internal self-checks covering formulas, parameters, prior-art URLs and chapter consistency before delivery.

python scripts/validate_patent_draft.py draft.json python scripts/build_patent_package.py draft.json --output-dir outputs --prefix patent

Safety notes: scripts and network

The skill runs scripts. It needs Python for validating and building the draft and rendering Mermaid diagrams, plus Mermaid rendering tooling and Word/DOCX generation support used by scripts/disclosure/. Review the scripts before running them on sensitive material.

The skill is listed as not using the network. Even so, keep unpublished inventions out of any tool you do not trust, and do not treat the output as a filing decision.

  • Runs scripts: yes
  • Uses network: no
  • Keep confidential material only in environments you control

What people use it for

  • Turning a research paper into a Chinese technical disclosure for an attorney to review.
  • Scanning a project's documents and code to find candidate patent points and merge them into one disclosure.
  • Checking whether the claims of a paper have source evidence for each technical feature.
  • Revising an existing disclosure with new material while keeping timestamped versions.

Frequently asked questions

Is the nature-paper-to-patent skill free to use?

The source material lists the licence as Apache-2.0. Check the licence file in the skill folder for the full terms before using or redistributing it.

How do I install an agent skill like this one?

Download the ZIP from the page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

What does the skill require to run?

It requires Python for the validation and build scripts and for rendering Mermaid diagrams. It also needs Mermaid rendering tooling and Word/DOCX generation support used by scripts/disclosure/, plus a source such as a PDF, pasted text or inventor materials.

Can this skill write a finished patent I can file?

No. The package is a drafting aid for inventor and patent-professional review. It is not a patentability, infringement or filing-sufficiency opinion, so a patent attorney should review it before filing.

Does the skill use the internet?

The skill is listed as not using the network. It does run scripts, so review them before running on sensitive material.

How does this compare with asking a chatbot to draft a patent?

A general chatbot may draft directly from an abstract. This skill instead requires staged checkpoints, source IDs for each claimed feature, and [TO CONFIRM] questions for missing facts, which makes the draft easier to audit.

Our verdict

Use this skill if you are a researcher, inventor or patent professional who wants a first-draft Chinese patent or technical disclosure with a source map to review. Pick something else if you need a finished filing without attorney review, general manuscript writing, or an invention whose details are not in the files you provide.
