How to use the GEO Monthly Progress Report agent skill
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The geo-compare skill is a set of instructions that lets an AI agent compare two GEO audits for the same website and write a formatted 'here's your progress' report for the client. GEO stands for generative engine optimization, which is the work of making a site visible in AI search answers. This guide is for agencies and consultants who run monthly client check-ins and want the agent to handle the comparison and layout. By the end you will know what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for it in plain language, and what it needs before it runs.
Quick start
- 1Download the ZIP. Get the geo-compare ZIP from the source page. It contains SKILL.md.
- 2Unzip into a skills folder. Place the geo-compare folder in ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or in a project's .claude/skills/ folder.
- 3Or upload in the Claude apps. In the Claude apps, open Settings, go to Capabilities, then Skills, and upload the skill.
- 4Confirm baseline audits exist. Check that prior GEO audit markdown files for the domain are in ~/.geo-prospects/audits/.
- 5Ask for the comparison. Request the comparison in plain language, naming the domain, or use /geo compare <domain>.
- 6Review the report. Open the generated file in ~/.geo-prospects/reports/ and check the figures against the audits before sending.
What the geo-compare skill makes the agent do
An agent skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that tells an agent how to handle a specific task. This one covers monthly delta tracking for GEO clients. It takes two audits of the same domain, a baseline and a current one, and calculates how each metric changed.
The skill parses both audits for the overall GEO score, six category scores, five AI platform scores, the status of 14 AI crawlers, critical issues, and action items. It then labels each change as improved, declined, or unchanged and writes a markdown report to ~/.geo-prospects/reports/ named after the domain and date.
- Compares overall score, category scores, platform scores and AI crawler access between two audits
- Tracks action item status such as done, in progress or not started
- Writes a client-ready progress report as a markdown file
Install the geo-compare skill
Download the ZIP for skills/geo-compare from the source page. The ZIP contains one file, SKILL.md. Unzip it so the geo-compare folder sits inside one of the following locations.
For a personal install across all your projects, put it in ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, put it in that project's .claude/skills/ folder. If you use the Claude apps instead, open Settings, go to Capabilities, and upload the skill under Skills.
- Personal: ~/.claude/skills/geo-compare/
- Project only: .claude/skills/geo-compare/ inside your project folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills → upload
Trigger the skill with natural requests
You do not need to remember a command. The skill's description lists phrases that should activate it, including 'compare', 'delta', 'monthly report' and 'progress'. You can also use the explicit command form that the skill defines.
Good requests name the domain and, if you have them, the period. The agent looks for saved audits for that domain in ~/.geo-prospects/audits/ and sorts them by date.
- "Compare the GEO audits for electron-srl.com and make the monthly report"
- "Run the monthly progress report for electron-srl.com"
- "What changed in GEO score for electron-srl.com since January?"
/geo compare electron-srl.comUnderstand the inputs and the report
You can pass a domain, which makes the agent pick the oldest audit as the baseline and the newest as current. You can also pass two explicit audit file paths. The skill's examples show audit files named with the domain and a date, saved under ~/.geo-prospects/audits/.
If only one audit exists, the skill uses it as the baseline and runs a fresh quick audit as the current one. That fallback depends on other skills in the toolkit, so it will not work on its own. If no audits exist, the skill suggests running the prospect audit command first.
- Delta is current minus baseline for each metric
- Trend markers: ▲ improved, ▼ declined, ── unchanged
- Report sections include executive summary, score progress, category and platform tables, crawler changes, action plan status and next month focus
/geo compare ~/.geo-prospects/audits/electron-srl.com-2026-01-15.md ~/.geo-prospects/audits/electron-srl.com-2026-03-12.mdSafety, requirements and tips
The skill declares no bundled scripts and no network use. It runs on file reads and writes, with Bash, Glob and Read tools available to the agent. You need Claude Code or a compatible agent with file and shell access, plus prior GEO audit markdown files saved in ~/.geo-prospects/audits/ that were produced by the GEO audit workflow.
The report is only as accurate as the audit files it reads. Do not hand-edit audits before comparing them, and check the generated numbers against the source files before sending anything to a client. Keep the same toolkit for both audits so the categories match.
- Runs scripts: no
- Uses network: no
- Keep audits unedited and produced by the same toolkit
- Review the report before sharing it with a client
- Not suited to a one-off audit of a single site
What people use it for
- Monthly client check-in showing score change since onboarding
- Tracking which quick-win action items the client dev team completed between audits
- Showing a client which AI crawlers were newly allowed in robots.txt
- Building a consistent before-and-after template across several agency clients
- Identifying new issues that appeared in the latest audit but not the baseline
Frequently asked questions
How do I install the geo-compare skill?
Download the ZIP for skills/geo-compare from the source page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
What do I need before I can use it?
You need Claude Code or a compatible agent with file read/write and shell access. You also need prior GEO audit markdown files saved in ~/.geo-prospects/audits/, produced by the GEO audit workflow.
Is the geo-compare skill free?
The source lists the licence as MIT. It does not state pricing, so check the source page for any terms beyond the licence.
What if I only have one audit for a site?
The skill uses that audit as the baseline and runs a fresh quick audit as the current one. That fresh audit relies on the other skills in the toolkit, so it may not work if only this skill is installed.
Does geo-compare run scripts or access the internet?
According to the source, it runs no scripts and uses no network. It works by reading and writing files with the agent's tools.
Can I use it for a one-off audit of a single website?
No. The skill is built to compare two points in time for the same domain. For a one-off audit, use the GEO audit workflow instead.

Our verdict
Use geo-compare if you run GEO services for clients and already save audits with the same toolkit each month, because it removes the work of building the comparison and report layout by hand. Pick something else if you have no earlier audit files, need a single-site audit, or your audit files are edited by hand, since the report is only as reliable as the data it parses.
