How to use the Follow Up After Call agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The follow-up-after-call skill is an agent skill for sales work. After a customer, prospect, partner, or important internal call, it turns real call evidence such as a transcript, pasted notes, or a recording summary into a follow-up package: what was said, who owns each next step, and drafts you can copy. This guide covers what the skill does, how to install it, how to trigger it, and what to check before you use its output.

Quick start

  1. 1Download and unzip. Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ or a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills instead.
  2. 2Check your runtime. Confirm your agent runtime supports SKILL.md skills. An ask_user_input tool is helpful for confirmations.
  3. 3Gather call evidence. Collect the transcript, pasted notes, or recording summary for the call you want to follow up on.
  4. 4Ask with a natural request. Tell the agent which call it is and attach or paste the evidence, for example "Follow up after my call with Acme" plus the transcript.
  5. 5Pick the call if asked. If the agent offers candidate calls, choose one. It will not draft until you confirm.
  6. 6Review the package. Check every commitment, owner and date against the source, and note any gaps the agent flagged.
  7. 7Copy and act yourself. Copy the email or internal-recap text from the block quotes and send, post, or log it in your own tools. The skill does not do this for you.

What the skill makes the agent do

The skill is for work after a completed sales, discovery, demo, or partner conversation. It tells the agent to work from grounded evidence: a transcript, notes you paste or upload, or a recording summary. From that, it produces a seller-ready package that preserves what was actually said, makes ownership visible, and gives you copy you can use.

The skill only drafts in chat. It does not send emails, post messages, create email drafts, or update a CRM. You review and act on the output yourself.

  • Recaps the call based on the evidence, with decisions, commitments, asks, objections, and blockers
  • Assigns owners and dates to next steps, using Unknown or TBD where the evidence does not say
  • Drafts external email copy and a CRM-ready next-step sentence for external calls only
  • Drafts an internal team recap for internal calls, in a block quote you can copy
  • States gaps instead of rebuilding a conversation it has no record of

Install the follow-up-after-call skill

Download the ZIP for the skill from this page and unzip it. You can install it in one of two places. For a personal install that works across your projects, unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into that project's .claude/skills/ folder.

If you use the Claude apps, you can instead upload the skill under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

The skill's files are agents/openai.yaml, references/opportunity-and-channel-selection.md, references/request-schema.yaml, and SKILL.md. SKILL.md is the entry point the agent reads.

Know what the skill needs before you start

The skill needs an agent runtime that supports SKILL.md skills. Ideally the runtime also has an ask_user_input tool, which the skill uses for confirmations. The skill refers to a companion skill, answers-ask-user-input, for intake questions.

The connectors it references are all optional enrichment: meeting transcript tool, calendar, CRM, email, internal messaging, and knowledge or file storage. The one hard requirement is grounded call evidence. CRM, calendar, files, and messages can add context but cannot replace a transcript, notes, or a customer-facing thread that records the call.

The skill runs no scripts. It does use the network, because it can reach the connectors you enable.

  • Required: grounded call evidence (transcript, pasted notes, or recording summary)
  • Optional: meeting transcripts, calendar, CRM, email, internal messaging, knowledge and files
  • Optional companion skill: answers-ask-user-input
  • Runs scripts: no. Uses network: yes.

Trigger the skill with a natural request

Describe the call and paste or attach the evidence. Phrases like the ones below are enough to start. If you say only "Follow up after my call", the agent will not guess a meeting. It will offer three choices: use your most appropriate recent grounded call, use a call, account, attendee, or date you specify, or use a transcript or notes you provide.

When you name a recent call without a source, such as "my latest call", "yesterday", or a named account, the agent searches the narrowest recent window in your calendar and meeting transcripts, then offers up to five candidates for you to pick from. It does not draft until you choose.

  • Follow up after my call with Acme. Here is the transcript: [paste]
  • Here are my notes from this morning's discovery call. Draft the follow-up.
  • Recap yesterday's demo for the partner team and list who owns each next step.
  • Follow up after my call with the Northwind account last week.

Review the output and the safety limits

Read the package against the evidence before you send anything. The skill tells the agent to label pasted or uploaded material as user-provided when it cannot verify it, and to state missing or conflicting evidence rather than fill it in.

Internal-only sensitive conversations need extra care. The agent is told to pick safe destinations for drafts, but a person must still review them before anything is shared. Because the skill never sends, you are the last check.

  • Check each commitment and owner against the transcript or your notes
  • Check that dates marked TBD or Unknown are not filled in by you without evidence
  • Review internal recaps before posting them anywhere shared
  • Keep the skill's output in chat until you have edited it

What people use it for

  • An account executive gets a same-day recap and a draft email after a customer call, with next steps tied to what the customer said.
  • A sales manager checks whether commitments made in a discovery call were captured by the rep and who owns each one.
  • A rep prepares an internal team recap after a partner demo, with the open questions and owners listed.
  • A seller produces a one-sentence CRM next-step line to paste into the relevant opportunity, after the agent has ranked the candidates.

Frequently asked questions

Is the follow-up-after-call skill free to use?

The source for this page does not state pricing or licence terms beyond the licence listed as MIT. Check the repository for the licence text before you rely on it.

Does the skill send emails or update my CRM?

No. The skill drafts in chat only. It does not send emails, post messages, create email drafts, or write to a CRM. You copy the drafts and act on them yourself.

What do I need to install and run it?

You need an agent runtime that supports SKILL.md skills and, ideally, an ask_user_input tool. Grounded call evidence such as a transcript or notes is required. Connectors are optional, and the skill references a companion skill, answers-ask-user-input, for intake questions.

Where do I put the skill files?

Unzip the downloaded ZIP into ~/.claude/skills/ for a personal install, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder for one project. In the Claude apps, upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

Can the agent write a recap without a transcript?

No. The skill explicitly refuses to recap a call from surrounding account context alone. If there is no transcript or notes, it asks you for them or for the specific call.

Does the skill run scripts or use the network?

It runs no scripts. It does use the network, because it can reach the optional connectors you enable, such as meeting transcripts, calendar, CRM, email, and messaging tools.

Our verdict

This skill suits account executives and sales reps who want a quick, evidence-based recap after customer calls, and managers checking that discovery commitments were captured. It is not suited to situations with no transcript or notes, or to anyone who expects automatic sending or CRM updates, since it only drafts. Review every draft before it leaves your hands, especially for internal conversations.
