How to use the facebook-upload agent skill for Facebook profiles

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

facebook-upload is an agent skill that teaches an AI agent to run the sau command-line tool against a personal Facebook profile. This guide explains what the skill lets the agent do, how to install it, how to ask for things in plain language, and what to check before letting it publish or delete anything. You do not need prior experience with agent skills.

Quick start

  1. 1Install sau. Install the social-auto-upload sau CLI by following its own project instructions, and confirm it runs from the command line.
  2. 2Add the skill. Unzip the downloaded skill into ~/.claude/skills/ or a project's .claude/skills/, or upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
  3. 3Log in. Ask the agent to log in, or run sau facebook login with your account name, and complete the Facebook login in the visible Chrome window.
  4. 4Check the login. Run sau facebook check to confirm the personal profile login is still valid.
  5. 5Publish or review. Publish a video or note with a clear request, or ask the agent to verify a post by its link, owner ID and exact text before deleting anything.

What does the facebook-upload skill make the agent do?

The skill covers a personal Facebook profile only. It can open a visible Chrome window so you can log in yourself, check that the login still works, publish a video or a multi-image note immediately, look up a previously published post, move a post to the trash, or permanently delete a post.

Facebook Pages are not covered. The skill's source says Pages use a separate facebook-page command with different permissions. Scheduled posting is also not supported; publishing happens immediately.

  • Log in to a personal profile in a visible Chrome window
  • Check the login state with check
  • Publish a video (upload-video) or a multi-image note (upload-note) immediately
  • Verify a published post, or a post in the trash
  • Move a post to the trash, or permanently delete it

How do you install the facebook-upload skill?

Download the ZIP from the skill's page on this site and unzip it. Put the folder in one of two places: ~/.claude/skills/ for all your projects, or .claude/skills/ inside a single project folder.

Alternatively, in the Claude apps, open Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills, and upload the skill there.

The skill calls the existing sau CLI (social-auto-upload), so that tool must be installed and available on the command line before the skill can do anything. The skill's source does not give an install command for sau, so follow the social-auto-upload project's own instructions.

  • Option A: unzip into ~/.claude/skills/ (personal, all projects)
  • Option B: unzip into a project's .claude/skills/ folder
  • Option C: upload through Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps

How do you log in and check the account?

Login opens a visible Chrome window where you complete the Facebook login yourself. The account is saved as cookies/facebook_creator.json in the local folder. Run check afterwards to confirm the personal profile login is still valid. The source notes that check does not prove you have Page permissions or that a post was published.

By default no proxy is set and the browser connects directly. If your network needs a proxy, pass --proxy or set the SAU_FACEBOOK_PROXY environment variable. Passing --proxy "" ignores the environment variable and connects directly.

sau facebook login --account creator sau facebook check --account creator

How do you publish a video or an image note?

Videos are published with upload-video. The title, body and tags are merged into one caption. Notes with several images use upload-note. Both publish immediately.

Replace the account name, file paths and text with your own. These commands can create real posts, so check the paths and text first. Run sau facebook upload-video --help or upload-note --help to see the current options.

sau facebook upload-video --account creator --file videos/demo.mp4 --title "标题" --desc "正文" --tags 生活,分享 sau facebook upload-note --account creator --images images/1.jpg images/2.jpg --title "图文标题" --note "正文"

How do you verify or delete an older post safely?

To manage an existing post, you need its original link. The skill asks for the account, the post link, the author's numeric ID and the exact post text, and checks all of them before acting. The post is matched against recent posts within a limited scrolling range. If the match is not unique or the post is not found, the command fails clearly.

By default delete moves a post to the trash, and the platform removes it after 30 days; the result is reported as trashed. Adding --permanent deletes immediately, and if the post is already in the trash you also add --from-trash. Permanent deletion cannot be undone.

verify --from-trash checks a post in the trash. verify --deleted only confirms that the ID is not in the trash, reported as absent_from_trash. That alone does not prove a post was permanently deleted in the past.

  • Trash (default): delete ... --result .local/trash-result.json
  • Permanent from trash: delete ... --from-trash --permanent --result .local/delete-result.json
sau facebook verify --account creator --post-url "原作品链接" --owner-id "作者数字ID" --expected-text "原作品正文" sau facebook delete --account creator --post-url "原作品链接" --owner-id "作者数字ID" --expected-text "原作品正文" --result .local/trash-result.json sau facebook delete --account creator --post-url "原作品链接" --owner-id "作者数字ID" --expected-text "原作品正文" --from-trash --permanent --result .local/delete-result.json

What safety rules does the skill follow?

A publish counts as confirmed only when Facebook shows a success message for that submission. If the click times out or the browser disconnects, the result is unknown. The agent should check the personal profile or the trash for the original post, and must not re-upload or re-delete on its own. Local media files are never deleted.

The scripts and network access are real. The skill runs scripts and uses the network through the sau CLI, so review the commands before running them. The example files in scripts/examples/ (facebook_commands.sh and facebook_cli_template.py) are copy-paste examples, not runtime dependencies. Read each command's --help output first, because these commands can create real posts.

  • Confirm the login user, author, post ID and text before any delete
  • Treat timeouts and dropped browsers as unknown results to check
  • Do not use the example scripts without replacing accounts, files and text

What people use it for

  • A creator posting the same video to their own Facebook profile through an agent
  • A developer already using sau who wants an agent to run its Facebook commands
  • Cleaning up older personal posts with a confirmed, step-by-step delete process
  • Moving a batch of old posts to the trash first, and checking them before any permanent deletion

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install the sau CLI before using this skill?

Yes. The skill calls the existing sau CLI (social-auto-upload), and the skill's source says it must be installed and available on the command line. The source does not give an install command for sau, so follow the social-auto-upload project's instructions.

Is the facebook-upload skill free?

The item listing says the licence is MIT. The SKILL.md front matter says MIT-0, so check the licence text in the downloaded ZIP before reuse. The source does not mention pricing.

Can this skill post to a Facebook Page?

No. The skill covers personal profiles only. Pages use the separate facebook-page command, with different commands and permissions.

Can the agent schedule Facebook posts with this skill?

No. The skill publishes immediately and does not handle personal-profile scheduling.

What happens if a delete times out?

The skill treats a timeout or dropped browser as an unknown result. The agent should check the profile or trash for the original post and should not retry the delete.

Does deleting a post with this skill remove it permanently?

Not by default. Delete moves the post to the trash, and the platform removes it after 30 days. Only --permanent removes it immediately, and that cannot be undone. The skill can only search a limited recent range of posts.

Our verdict

This skill suits creators who want an agent to publish videos or image notes to their own personal Facebook profile, and developers who already use the sau tool. It is careful with deletions, but you still need to review commands and understand that permanent deletion is irreversible. If you manage Facebook Pages or need scheduled posting, pick a different tool.
