How to use the Exam Ready Study Prep agent skill
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The exam-ready skill is an agent skill for students who are cramming. You give the agent your notes or PDF plus your syllabus, and it builds a cramming sheet for each topic using only that material. After this guide you will know what the skill does, how to install it, how to trigger it with a plain request, and when it is the wrong tool.
Quick start
- 1Download the ZIP. Download the exam-ready ZIP from this page.
- 2Unzip into a skills folder. Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for all projects, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder for one project.
- 3Or upload in the Claude apps. In the Claude apps, open Settings, go to Capabilities, and upload the skill under Skills.
- 4Share your material and syllabus. Provide your notes or PDF and list the syllabus topics or paste the syllabus.
- 5State your time and exam type. Say how many hours you have and whether the exam is MCQ, short-answer or long-answer.
- 6Work through the sheets. Read each topic sheet, write the exam sentence in your own words, and attempt the practice question.
What an agent skill is and what exam-ready makes the agent do
An agent skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that tells an AI agent when and how to handle a particular kind of task. exam-ready is one such skill. It activates when a student provides study material (a PDF or pasted notes) and a syllabus, and wants to prepare for an exam.
For each syllabus topic, the agent extracts the following from your material only: a one-line definition, three to five key points an examiner expects, important keywords to use in an answer (in bold), a description of any important diagram or figure, one or two sentences you can write directly in an exam answer (or an MCQ trick), and one examiner-style practice question.
- It does not explain the full topic or add outside context.
- It does not tell you to read more or refer to a chapter; it gives the content in the sheet itself.
- If a topic is not in your notes, it says so and asks you to check your material.
- If your notes contradict the syllabus topic name, it answers from the notes and says so.
Install exam-ready with a ZIP file or the Claude apps
Download the exam-ready ZIP from this page. Then choose one of these options.
Option 1, personal install: unzip the file into ~/.claude/skills/ so the skill is available across your projects.
Option 2, single project: unzip the file into the .claude/skills/ folder inside your project.
Option 3, Claude apps: open Settings, go to Capabilities, and upload the skill under Skills.
- The skill's files are SKILL.md. Make sure the unzipped folder contains that file.
- Restart or start a new session if your agent does not pick up the skill straight away.
Trigger the skill with natural requests
You do not need a special command. Share your material and syllabus, then say what you need in plain language. The skill matches requests like the trigger phrases below.
- "I have an exam tomorrow on [subject]"
- "explain [topic] from my notes"
- "what do I need to know about [topic] for my exam"
- "go through my syllabus"
- "I only have [X] hours, help me prepare"
- "quiz me on [topic]"
Use time limits and exam type to shape the output
If you give a time limit, the skill first outputs a priority list of your topics, ordered by explicit marks in the syllabus, how often each topic appears in your PDF, and how many subtopics it has. It then expands topics in that priority order. If you have an hour or less, the output is cut to definition, key points and the exam line, with no diagrams.
If you state the exam type (MCQ, short-answer or long-answer), the skill adapts. For MCQ it gives an elimination tip instead of a written sentence. If you do not state a type, it defaults to long-answer and asks once whether the exam is MCQ or written.
- Give the number of hours you have, for example "I only have 3 hours".
- Give the exam type, for example "it's an MCQ exam".
- List your syllabus topics, or paste the syllabus text.
What you need and the safety notes
The source lists no required software and no required packages. The skill runs no scripts and uses no network access. Its only file is SKILL.md, so it works by giving the agent instructions for the material you provide.
Because the skill only repeats what your material says, it cannot check whether your notes are correct. If your notes contain an error, the cramming sheet will repeat it.
- Requires: nothing listed.
- Runs scripts: no.
- Uses network: no.
- Accuracy depends on your notes; verify key facts against your course material before the exam.
Tips for getting the most from the cramming sheets
Give the complete relevant notes rather than a fragment, because the skill cannot fill gaps and will not use outside explanations. Ask for one topic at a time when you need depth, and use the practice question to test yourself before reading the answer.
If the sheet shows cross-references, pay attention to them, since examiners may link related topics.
- Paste or upload the notes for the subject you are sitting, not a general course.
- Use the "quiz me on [topic]" request to practise recall.
- Check the diagram descriptions against your own figures.
What people use it for
- Cramming the night before an exam using your own lecture notes.
- Working out which topics to study first when you have two hours left.
- Getting quizzed on one weak topic from a PDF your teacher shared.
- Preparing MCQ answers with elimination tips for each topic.
Frequently asked questions
How do I install the exam-ready agent skill?
Download the exam-ready ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. You can also upload it in the Claude apps under Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills.
Is the exam-ready skill free?
The source lists the licence as MIT. It does not mention prices, so check the directory page for any cost details.
What does the exam-ready skill require?
The source lists no requirements. It runs no scripts and uses no network access, and its only file is SKILL.md.
Can exam-ready teach a subject from scratch?
No. It deliberately avoids outside explanations and will not fill gaps in your notes, so it is for revision of material you already have.
Will exam-ready check whether my notes are correct?
No. It only repeats what the material says, so errors in your notes will appear in the output. Verify key facts against your course material.
What should I do if the skill says a topic was not found?
The skill tells you the topic was not found in your notes and asks you to check your material. Make sure you have provided the notes or PDF that cover that topic.

Our verdict
Use exam-ready if you are revising from your own notes or PDF and need a fast, topic-by-topic cramming sheet, a priority order for limited time, or practice questions on a specific topic. Pick something else if you are learning a subject from scratch or need outside explanations, or if you need your notes checked for accuracy.
