How to use the Connections Optimizer agent skill
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
Connections Optimizer is an agent skill from the ECC project (affaan-m/ECC, MIT licence) that reorganises your X and LinkedIn networks as a whole, instead of treating them as a cold lead list. This guide explains what the skill makes the agent do, how to install it, how to ask for it in plain language, and what it needs. By the end you will be able to run a review-first pass on your follow list and connections and get ranked add/follow suggestions with drafts.
Quick start
- 1Download and install the ZIP. Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for all projects, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. You can also upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps.
- 2Check the tools you have. Confirm you have X API access or browser control for X, and LinkedIn API access or browser control for LinkedIn. Decide whether you want email drafts in Apple Mail / Mail.app.
- 3State your priorities and platforms. Tell the agent what you are working on now, which platforms to review, and any accounts that must not be changed. Mention a mode if you want one other than default.
- 4Ask for a review, not a change. Ask for the report first, for example by asking who to unfollow and who to follow. The skill returns a plan and drafts before any change is made.
- 5Check the prune and keep lists. Read the confidence and risk notes for each account. Remove anything you want to keep, and check that important relationships are not at risk.
- 6Send drafts yourself. Edit the X DM, LinkedIn, or Apple Mail drafts to your liking. The skill does not send them, so you send each message yourself.
What is an agent skill, and what does this one do?
An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file. The file gives an AI agent instructions for a specific task. When a request matches the skill's description, the agent follows those instructions and uses whatever tools are available to it.
Connections Optimizer covers six areas: tidying up and growing your X follows, analysing LinkedIn follows and connections, building a review-first tidy-up queue, recommending people to add or follow, identifying warm paths to them, and drafting messages for X DM, LinkedIn, or Apple Mail in your own voice.
The skill is designed to show you a plan and drafts first. It does not send messages, unfollow, or connect on its own. The skill's own rule is that it does not do blind auto-cleaning.
- Prune queue: accounts it suggests unfollowing or reviewing, with a reason, confidence level and action for each
- Keep / protect list: people it judges valuable, with their bridge value
- Add / follow targets: people ranked by how warm the path to them is, with a preferred channel
- Drafts for X DM, LinkedIn, or Apple Mail
Install the connections-optimizer skill
Download the ZIP from the skill's page on this directory. Then choose one of the following ways to install it.
For a personal install that works across your projects, unzip the folder into ~/.claude/skills/. To limit it to one project, unzip it into that project's .claude/skills/ folder. You can also upload the ZIP in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
After installing, check that the folder contains SKILL.md. The skill is listed under the files as SKILL.md only, with no scripts.
- Personal (all projects): ~/.claude/skills/
- Single project: the project's .claude/skills/ folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP
What you need before you start
The skill can work with a few tools. Only X API access or browser control is needed for graph inspection. The other tools make the results better but are optional.
For X, the skill uses the x-api skill to inspect your graph, with browser control as a fallback. For LinkedIn, it uses LinkedIn API access if you have it, otherwise browser control. Email drafts use Apple Mail / Mail.app desktop automation.
Recommended extras are the lead-intelligence and social-graph-ranker skills, Exa or deep research for enriching people and companies, and the brand-voice skill, which the agent uses before drafting. The source file does not give setup steps for these, so check their own documentation.
- X API access (x-api skill) or browser control
- LinkedIn API access if available, otherwise browser control
- Recommended: lead-intelligence, social-graph-ranker, Exa or deep research, brand-voice
- Apple Mail / Mail.app for email drafts
How to trigger the skill with natural requests
You do not need a special command. Describe what you want in plain language and the agent will match it to the skill. The skill's description covers requests about tidying a follow list, growing toward current priorities, or rebalancing toward high-quality relationships.
It also helps to tell the agent your current priorities, the platforms you want (X, LinkedIn, or both), any accounts you never want changed, and the mode. If you do not name a mode, the skill uses default.
- "I want to clean up my X follow list. Here are my current priorities: ..."
- "Who should I unfollow on X, and who should I follow instead?"
- "Find LinkedIn people I should reconnect with for my current goals."
- "Rebalance my social graph around high-quality relationships, on X and LinkedIn."
Choose a mode: light-pass, default or aggressive
The mode sets how much the skill suggests changing. All three modes still show a review step before any change is applied.
light-pass only prunes low-value one-way follows that it is highly confident about, shows the rest for review, and produces a small add/follow list. default gives a balanced prune queue, a balanced keep list, a ranked add/follow queue, and warm-intro or direct-outreach drafts where they help. aggressive produces a large prune queue and has low tolerance for old follows that do not follow back, but it still has a review gate.
- light-pass: conservative, only high-confidence low-value one-way follows
- default: balanced (used if you do not specify a mode)
- aggressive: larger queue, still reviewed before applying
Read the report and approve changes
The skill returns a report in a fixed layout. Read it before approving anything. Each prune candidate shows a reason and a confidence level. Each review item shows a risk. Keep items show bridge value. Add targets show why now, the warm path, and the preferred channel.
The source states that the skill applies changes only after a reviewed plan. Treat the report as a draft. Check the confidence levels and risks, and remove anything you want to keep.
- Prune queue: reason, confidence, action
- Review queue: reason, risk
- Keep / protect: bridge value
- Add / follow targets: why now, warm path, preferred channel
- Drafts: X DM, LinkedIn, Apple Mail

The skill does not run scripts. It is a single SKILL.md file. It does use the network, because it inspects your X and LinkedIn data through the tools listed above, and it may use Exa or deep research to look up people and companies.
Default safety rules in the file: X changes apply only to accounts you follow, and followers are not touched. The first LinkedIn disconnect is treated as a manual, review-first step. Approved first-degree connections are not removed automatically. The skill does not send DMs, invitations, or emails automatically.
Scoring relies on signals the agent infers from platform data, so it can be wrong. Check any account before unfollowing or disconnecting, especially where the relationship matters to you.
- No scripts are included
- Network use: yes, for graph inspection and enrichment
- X: only accounts you follow are candidates; followers are left alone
- LinkedIn: first-degree connections are reviewed manually
- No automatic sending of DMs, invitations or emails
What people use it for
- Cleaning up a bloated X follow list while keeping useful connections, using the light-pass or default mode
- Finding one-way follows with no follow-back and deciding which to review first
- Ranking LinkedIn connections by how well they fit your current goals, and finding warm introductions
- Drafting short, personal X DM or LinkedIn messages for people you already have a link to
- Preparing an Apple Mail draft for a higher-context introduction, which you then review and send
Frequently asked questions
How do I install the connections-optimizer skill?
Download the ZIP from this page. Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ to use it across projects, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder to limit it to that project. You can also upload the ZIP in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
Is the connections-optimizer skill free?
The source file is released under the MIT licence, as stated on this page. The skill's recommended tools, such as X API access, LinkedIn API access, and Exa, may have their own costs or terms, which the source does not cover.
Does the skill unfollow people or send messages automatically?
No. The skill is built to show a reviewed plan and drafts first. It does not automatically send DMs, invitations or emails, and it does not blindly unfollow. X changes apply only to accounts you follow.
What do I need to run connections-optimizer?
You need X API access (through the x-api skill) or browser control for X, and LinkedIn API access or browser control for LinkedIn. Recommended extras include lead-intelligence, social-graph-ranker, Exa or deep research, and brand-voice. Apple Mail is needed only for email drafts.
Why is the skill in Japanese, and can I use it in English?
The SKILL.md file and its description are written in Japanese. The skill is listed as coming from the ECC project. The source does not say how well it works with English prompts, so test it on a small list first.
Can the skill be wrong about who to unfollow?
Yes. The source says the scoring relies on signals the agent must infer from platform data, and these may be wrong. Check each account before unfollowing or disconnecting, especially those with relationships that matter to you.

Our verdict
Connections Optimizer suits creators, founders and professionals who want a reasoned, reviewed plan for tidying their X follow list or LinkedIn connections, plus drafts that sound like them. It is a poor fit if you want automatic unfollowing or bulk messaging, since the skill is built to stop at a plan and drafts. If you need fully automated outreach, pick a different tool.
