How to use the Check Google Form Responses agent skill
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
This guide explains the recipe-collect-form-responses agent skill, a short set of instructions that lets an AI agent look up a Google Form and read the answers people have submitted. It is written for anyone who has not used agent skills before. By the end you will know what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for it in plain language, and what it needs to run.
Quick start
- 1Download and unzip the skill. Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it to get the recipe-collect-form-responses folder.
- 2Place it in your skills folder. Move the folder into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. Alternatively, upload it in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
- 3Install the requirements. Install the gws command-line tool and the gws-forms companion skill, and make sure your Google account can access the form.
- 4Ask for what you need. Describe the task in plain language, such as asking for a summary of a form's responses.
- 5Provide the form ID. Give the agent the form ID, or ask it to list your forms first to find the ID.
- 6Review the output. Check the table or summary the agent returns against the form before acting on it.
What this skill makes the agent do
An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file. The file gives an AI agent step-by-step instructions for a particular task. This one, named recipe-collect-form-responses, covers reading Google Form responses.
The skill tells the agent to use the gws command-line tool to list your forms, look up one form's details, and fetch its responses as a table. The agent can then summarise or review those answers for you.
Install the skill (ZIP download or Claude apps upload)
Download the ZIP file for this skill from this page and unzip it. To make it available to Claude Code for your user account, place the unzipped folder inside ~/.claude/skills/. To limit it to one project, place it inside that project's .claude/skills/ folder.
If you use the Claude apps instead, open Settings, go to Capabilities, and upload the skill under Skills.
- Personal use: ~/.claude/skills/
- Single project: the project's .claude/skills/ folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills
Install the requirements the skill depends on
This skill needs the gws command-line tool and the companion skill gws-forms, which provides the underlying commands. The skill also needs a Google account that has access to the form. Authentication is handled by gws; this skill file does not describe how to set it up, so check the gws documentation for that step.
- gws command-line tool
- gws-forms companion skill (install it alongside this one)
- A Google account with access to the form
Trigger the skill with natural requests
You do not need to type a command. Ask the agent in plain language about a form or its responses, and it can use this recipe when the request matches its description: retrieving and reviewing responses from a Google Form.
If you do not know the form ID, ask the agent to list your forms first. The recipe includes that step as an optional first step.
- "List my Google Forms."
- "Summarise the responses to my volunteer sign-up form."
- "Show me the answers to the event feedback form as a table."
The commands the recipe uses
The recipe runs three gws commands in order. Replace FORM_ID with the ID of your form. The agent runs these for you, but it helps to know what they do.
Step 1 lists forms and is only needed if you don't have the form ID. Step 2 gets the form's details. Step 3 fetches the responses in table format.
- List forms (if you don't have the form ID)
- Get form details
- Get responses as a table
gws forms forms list
gws forms forms get --params '{"formId": "FORM_ID"}'
gws forms forms responses list --params '{"formId": "FORM_ID"}' --format tableSafety notes: scripts and network access
This skill runs scripts and uses the network. The commands above call Google Forms through the gws tool, so the agent will read real submission data from your account. Review what the agent runs, especially the first time.
Only use this skill with responses you are authorised to share with an AI tool. Responses that contain sensitive personal information deserve extra care.
- Runs scripts: yes
- Uses network: yes
- The recipe only reads data; it does not describe editing or deleting forms or responses
Tips for getting good results
Give the agent the form's name or ID so it does not need to list everything first. Ask for the output you want, such as a summary, themes, or a count of answers.
This recipe only covers reading data. If you need to change a form, you will need a different skill or tool, since this file does not cover edits.
- Provide the form ID when you have it.
- Ask for a specific output, such as totals or common themes.
- Check the companion gws-forms skill if you need more than reading.
What people use it for
- Summarising responses to a volunteer sign-up form
- Reviewing event feedback forms and pulling out common comments
- Counting answers to a survey question for a class or team
- Checking which submissions have arrived before a deadline
Frequently asked questions
How do I install the recipe-collect-form-responses skill?
Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it. Place the folder in ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or in a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
What do I need to use this skill?
You need the gws command-line tool, the gws-forms companion skill, and a Google account with access to the form. Authentication is handled by gws, and this file does not explain how to set it up.
Is this skill free?
The source file is published under the Apache-2.0 licence. Check the licence in the original repository for the full terms.
Can this skill edit or delete my Google Form responses?
No. This recipe only describes reading forms and responses. The companion gws-forms skill may cover more, but this file does not.
Does the skill run scripts and use the internet?
Yes. It runs scripts and uses the network because the gws commands call Google Forms and fetch your responses.
Are there alternatives if this skill does not fit my needs?
If you need to edit forms, look for a skill or tool that covers editing. This recipe is limited to reading form data and displaying responses as a table.

Our verdict
This skill suits teachers, organisers and developers who already use the gws CLI and want an agent to read and summarise Google Form responses. It is not the right choice if you need to edit or delete forms or responses, or if your responses contain sensitive data you are not authorised to share with an AI tool.
