How to use the AI Visibility Report agent skill (ai-visibility)
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The ai-visibility skill is a set of instructions that teaches an AI agent to measure how much of your website traffic comes from AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. It uses real Google Analytics 4 referral data instead of sampling prompts. This guide explains what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for it in plain language, and what you need before it will work.
Quick start
- 1Download and unzip. Download the ZIP from the skill page and unzip it so that SKILL.md sits in an ai-visibility folder.
- 2Place the skill folder. Move the folder to ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or to .claude/skills/ in your project. In the Claude apps, upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
- 3Connect the Ryze connector. Add https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp as a connector in your MCP-capable client. In Claude Code, use the claude mcp add command shown in the requirements.
- 4Confirm GA4 and Search Console access. Check that the google_analytics and google_search_console tools appear in your workspace. Without them the core workflow cannot run.
- 5Ask in plain language. Request an AI visibility check, for example by asking how much traffic comes from ChatGPT or whether LLMs cite your site.
- 6Review the verdict and the restructure list. Read the verdict, engine table and cited-pages table, then work through the five pages the agent recommends changing.
What is an agent skill and what does this one do?
An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file. The file tells an AI agent when to use a capability and how to carry out the task. This skill is named ai-visibility and is described as a way to measure real AI-engine visibility.
The skill makes the agent pull AI referral traffic from your analytics, look at its trend, find the pages AI engines actually send visitors to, and compare those with pages that rank in search but get no AI traffic. It then proposes concrete page changes so those pages are more likely to be cited. The source notes that many AI visibility trackers sample prompts and guess, while GA4 records the clicks AI engines actually send.
- Measures sessions from AI sources, current period against previous period
- Checks whether AI traffic is growing and flags spikes
- Lists the cited pages that AI engines send visitors to
- Compares AI traffic with Search Console organic queries to find candidate pages
- Produces a verdict, engine table, cited-pages table and a top-5 list of pages to restructure
Install the skill from the ZIP file
Download the ZIP from the skill's page on this directory and unzip it. The skill is a single file, SKILL.md, inside the ai-visibility folder. Place the folder in one of two locations: your personal skills folder at ~/.claude/skills/, or a project-level folder at .claude/skills/ inside your project.
If you use the Claude apps instead of Claude Code, you can upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
- Personal install: ~/.claude/skills/ai-visibility/
- Project install: .claude/skills/ai-visibility/ inside your project folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP
~/.claude/skills/ai-visibility/SKILL.mdConnect the Ryze MCP connector
The skill depends on the free Ryze MCP connector, a hosted service at https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp. The skill's requirements section lists the setup for each client. Claude Code uses a single command with an HTTP transport. In claude.ai, Claude Desktop or Cursor, add the connector as a custom connector using the same URL.
The connector must also expose Google Analytics 4 tools (google_analytics) and, for the cross-reference step, Google Search Console tools (google_search_console).
- Claude Code: run claude mcp add ryze --transport http https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp
- claude.ai, Claude Desktop or Cursor: add a custom connector with the URL https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp
- Confirm that the GA4 and Search Console tools are available in your workspace
claude mcp add ryze --transport http https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcpHow to trigger the skill with natural requests
You do not need a special command. The skill's description lists phrases that should activate it. Ask in plain language, and the agent will look for the skill when the request matches.
Good triggers include 'AI visibility', 'GEO/AEO check', 'do LLMs cite us', 'traffic from ChatGPT' and 'how do we show up in AI search'. Adding the site or time period you care about helps the agent scope the report.
- "Run an AI visibility check on our site for the last 90 days."
- "How much traffic are we getting from ChatGPT and Perplexity?"
- "Do LLMs cite us? Show me the pages they send people to."
- "Which pages should we restructure for AI answers?"
What the report contains
The workflow runs in six steps: traffic by engine, trend over time, cited pages, referral detail with conversions, diagnosis of the top cited pages, and a cross-reference with Search Console to find misses. The agent reads the top two or three cited pages and notes their pattern, such as direct answers high on the page, statistics or definitions, clean headings and schema.
The final output includes a verdict on AI traffic as a share of organic traffic, the trend, and the top engine. It also includes an engine table, a cited-pages table with conversions, the citation pattern seen on winning pages, and a list of five pages to restructure with the exact change for each.
- Step 1: traffic by engine (google_analytics__getAiTrafficByEngine)
- Step 2: daily trend (google_analytics__getAiTrafficDaily)
- Step 3: cited pages (google_analytics__getAiLandingPages)
- Step 4: referral detail and conversions (google_analytics__getAIReferrals)
- Step 5: read the top 2-3 cited pages and note their pattern
- Step 6: find misses with google_search_console__runRawSearchAnalytics
Use the fallback if AI-traffic tools are missing
If the GA4 AI-traffic tools are not available in your workspace, the skill describes a fallback. The agent runs google_analytics__runRawReport and filters on the sessionSource dimension for known AI referrers. The listed referrers are chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com, claude.ai and copilot.microsoft.com.
The fallback still needs GA4 access, so it does not remove the analytics requirement.
sessionSource matching: chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com, claude.ai, copilot.microsoft.comSafety notes: scripts and network access
This skill does not run scripts. It is a SKILL.md file with instructions. It does use the network, because the agent calls the Ryze connector and then your analytics and Search Console tools to read data. Those calls can read your analytics and search data through your connected accounts, so only connect accounts you are comfortable letting the agent query.
The skill is released under the MIT licence. The source states that the Ryze connector is free to use, but it does not give pricing details beyond that.
- No scripts are run by this skill
- Network access is used for the connector and analytics calls
- Review the SKILL.md file before installing if you want to see every instruction
What people use it for
- An SEO specialist checks whether ChatGPT and Perplexity sessions are rising and which engine sends the most visitors.
- A marketing team picks which product or guide pages to restructure with direct answers and clear headings.
- A site owner compares pages with strong Search Console queries but zero AI referrals to find likely candidates for rewriting.
- A GEO or AEO consultant reviews whether AI-referred visitors convert better or worse than organic visitors.
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI Visibility skill free?
The skill is released under the MIT licence. The source says the Ryze MCP connector it depends on is free to use. The source does not list pricing for other services, so check the terms of your own analytics and AI client subscriptions.
What do I need to use the ai-visibility skill?
You need an MCP-capable client such as Claude Code, claude.ai, Claude Desktop or Cursor, the Ryze MCP connector, Google Analytics 4 access through the connector, and Google Search Console access for the cross-reference step. The skill does not run scripts but does use the network.
How do I install the ai-visibility skill in Claude Code?
Download the ZIP from the skill page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or .claude/skills/ inside a project. Then add the Ryze connector with the claude mcp add command given in the requirements section.
Does this skill work without Google Analytics 4?
No. The core workflow depends on GA4 and Search Console data. The skill's fallback also needs GA4 access, so sites without GA4 data are not a good fit.
Can the skill guarantee that ChatGPT or Perplexity will cite my pages?
No. The skill only observes patterns on pages that already get cited and suggests changes that match those patterns. It does not guarantee citations or give exact control over how AI engines rank content.
What is the difference between this skill and an AI visibility tracker?
Many AI visibility trackers sample prompts and estimate results. This skill reads actual referral sessions from GA4 for AI sources such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, then diagnoses pages from that data.
